THE ROOSTER

The rooster motif has recently appeared in the iconography of the Sierra’s Popular Embroidery and is not frequently found. It is usually embroidered on small cloths and alone, in a walking posture, with the particularity that its feathers are embroidered independently and with different stitches on each one.

Some experts attribute the appearance of this animal to Portuguese influence, possibly generated by the important and frequent commercial relations that the Sierra de Francia region maintained with various territories of the neighboring country, including orders for embroidered pieces.
