SWAN

Little is known about the symbolic meaning of the motifs of Serrano embroidery. However, it is possible to find records of them in the Egyptian, Assyrian and Iberian cultures where they emerged from, to which later influences would be added.

Nowadays, the meaning of this vast number of motifs (birds, fish, lions and dragons, among many others) has been lost. In spite of that, they continue to be used in popular Serrano embroidery for the love of the inherited compositions, interwoven by the decorative whim of the embroiderers who choose one motif or another often in a random way.
