At a crossroads of cultural paths, this solid, flat-ink embroidery is typical of the people who live in the Sierra de Francia. The figure shown here is a genuine vegetal arabesque that covers the entire piece. Animals are inserted into the winding branches of the plant. Some of these creatures are rooted in cultural tradition, while others are the fruit of imagination. All of them are stylised and entangled in the twisting branches.
Fragment of an offering cloth from the Textile Collection of the Instituto Valencia de Don Juan. 16th century.
