THE GOAT
In Serrano embroidery we can find numerous animals that are rarely represented, such as deer, griffins, horses, owls, slugs or unicorns. Others, such as birds, double-headed eagles, doves, dragons or lions are the most common animals that cover the canvases, often depicted as wrapped and joined together by plant motifs.
While the lions are usually represented facing each other or with their backs to each other, the birds, on either side of the Tree of Life, are facing each other or have their heads turned away from each other. The trouts generally occupy the corners or alternate with other motifs to form Greek keys and borders.
The goat is another one of these rare motifs that, just like the owl, the snail, the worm or the unicorn, always appears in a small size.
