BIRDS
The ability of birds to fly makes them symbolic messengers between heaven and earth. They also represent freedom of thought, emotional states and connection with souls, as flight implies freedom from the physical and material restrictions of the world.
The bird (which in Spanish is always used in the female gender, “pájara”) is one of the animal motifs that is represented the most in the compositions of Serrano embroidery, both individually and in pairs, as in this case. The orientation of the bird’s head also has a symbolic meaning, but its meaning can vary in the different localities of the Sierra de Francia.
